Beat Depression by the Pen
I’ve been depressed, and it’s not a happy place, but if I’ve overcome it, you can too. Depression can be crippling because it’s your own mind playing tricks against you. You can try to get over it by convincing yourself it’s not, but the reason that I got over depression was because I figured out why I was depressed, identified what I could change and left alone what I could not, and came out of depression for the better. I know depression is probably the worst feeling you’ve ever had, you just constantly feel inadequate, want to convince yourself out of it, but just can’t. One of the biggest things that helped me was writing. It helped me dig through the hard questions and looking back on what I had written, I truly became a changed person. I’m still me, but a version that was way more content with life. The best way to get over depression is to look at your life from another person’s perspective without any judgement. If you are always thinking, oh I should have done this, you’re doing something unnecessary. If you could change it, you should do something else, thinking and beating yourself up from it really doesn’t help. Let it go. I used to have pretty bad social anxiety, but then once I realized that nobody else really cares about me as much as I do, I let go, did a few crazy things, but felt way better and people even started to like me more.It might be hard at first, but looking at yourself from another person’s shoes as a benevolent anthropologist can help.
